Plagiarism Policy and use AI
Plagiarism Policy and use AI
Scientific journal "Kyiv Journal of Modern Psychology and Psychotherapy" only accepts original articles that have not been previously published in other journals.
According to the decision of the editor-in-chief, the article is checked for plagiarism using a computer program. When reviewing an article, a reviewer also makes a conclusion about the presence or absence of plagiarism in the article.
Plagiarized articles are analyzed to determine the amount of plagiarism: if the amount of plagiarism found in the article is less than a quarter of the total volume of the article, the manuscript is returned to the author(s) for correction of the content and references; if the amount of borrowed material is more than a quarter of the total volume of the article, the manuscript is rejected.
The forms of plagiarism include:
- use of any material without specifying the source of information;
- use of materials without the written permission of the author(s) or copyright holder(s), which forbids the use of the materials without special permission;
- use of any graphic materials, drawings, photos, tables, graphs, diagrams without attribution.
Incorrect borrowings include:
- absence of graphic marking (quotation marks) of the literally quoted text with its referencing to the source;
- incorrect reference to the source or its incomplete bibliographic description, which hinders the source's identification;
- a reference to the source text without explicit reference to this fact (error in identifying the source).
A way of increasing the text's originality and proper referencing to other authors is white citation. This method uses proper formatting of the quotes, which allows preserving the original text while avoiding low uniqueness. For this purpose, the following rules should be followed:
- place in quotation marks or square brackets the whole text without abbreviations and transformations;
- reference one quotation to one author or author's team, it is forbidden to join the authors;
- skip quoted words or paragraphs; it is forbidden to replace them with synonyms;
- put quotation marks around each quotation and use separate quotation marks (quotation marks in quotation marks) if a quotation refers to the text in which the text from another source has already been cited, in part or in full.
In writing an article the author should also avoid self-plagiarism (using one's own materials that have been published previously), as this is considered unethical. Each manuscript is copyrighted after its publication, so the author will no longer own the right to republish the materials as new ones, and cannot replicate them literally in subsequent publications. An exception may be to quote the author's short excerpts from his/her own works by posting relevant links.
JOURNAL POLICY ON THE USE OF AI TOOLS
The journal's policy on generative AI is based on the recommendations of leading international organizations in the field of scientific publications, such as COPE, WAME and EASE. These organizations emphasize that AI cannot be an author, and responsibility for the content of the work always lies with a person.
Use of AI by Authors
The journal allows the use of generative AI tools to improve the quality of manuscripts, particularly for checking grammar, style, and clarity. Authors are required to:
- adhere to the principles of academic integrity and scientific ethics;
- be accountable for the manuscript's content. The use of AI does not absolve authors of responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, and originality of their work;
- disclose the use of AI. In the "Acknowledgments" or "Methodology" section of the manuscript, authors must clearly state which AI tools were used and for what purposes.
Use of AI in the Peer Review Process
Editors and reviewers must not use generative AI tools to analyze manuscripts or prepare reviews. Such use is considered a violation of author confidentiality and intellectual property rights.
